Melissa’s journey – building a career in care
Melissa joined the company in 2016 as a Support Worker at Harbour Care Home. Before this, she worked in a local hospital.
"I had no experience in supporting those individuals with mental health conditions and complex needs, but had always had an interest in this area" she says.
Melissa was keen to develop her knowledge and further her career and completed a number of training courses gaining qualifications, including a Level 5 in Leadership and Management.
"When the role at Harbour Care came up I wasn't initially sure. However, after my interview and meeting some of the management team I realised that this was a combination of challenging work, management that really cared, and an opportunity to specialise and take my career in the direction I want with their full support."
With full support from the company, Melissa's commitment and hard work has taken her career in a direction that is fulfilling and rewarding.
She took on extra responsibilities and new roles, being promoted to Team Leader and then Deputy Manager within the care home. Melissa is now Service Manager at Harbour Lodge. Melissa
