Harbour Care Group (HCG), based in Herne Bay, today announced the opening of its newest location - Sussex Avenue in Canterbury.

HCG specialises in supported living for people with complex mental health needs, often with additional needs resulting from learning disabilities. Supported living locations such as Sussex Avenue offer a step towards independence, but with the reassurance of professional support staff available 24/7. Smaller than HCG's other locations, Sussex Avenue is aimed at people who are a little closer to independence and who are already finding a new place in the general community, but who benefit from living in a small, mutually supportive group.

HCG provides high quality [CQC Registered] homes, supported living and floating support services for forensic and/or complex needs mental health service users. Its services are in high demand because they offer genuinely personalised, positive, person-centred support. The company is also building an excellent reputation for successful outcomes, thus providing commissioning authorities and families excellent value.

Director of quality, Dr Meena Naguib, said; “COVID-19 has highlighted mental health to the general public. However, there has been an increasing need for several years to support and care for people with complex mental health conditions, with or without additional learning disabilities. The need to provide safe, good quality care for vulnerable people is therefore growing. Our plans to open this new site were in hand before COVID-19 hit the headlines, and it's taken a huge effort by the whole team to develop the new premises, recruit and train a new staff team. I'd like to thank all members of our team and our contractors who made this possible."

HCG supports and cares for people from all over Kent, and from neighbouring counties. The addition of Sussex Avenue not only offers additional facilities but also broadens the company's presence. And demonstrating the demand for supported living places in Kent, the new location is already at 60% capacity, and is providing 9 skilled, full-time jobs.
